Pours deep red mahogany with a big fluffy tan head. The effervescent head releases caramel malts and light fruity esters with little hop aroma. The medium maltiness is balanced with caramel and toasty biscuit accents. Complex fruit aromas with a layered sweetness (honey, then caramel, then toffee) with a hint of licorice and chocolate. A big, rich, abbey-style ale that dries out nicely. The high level of carbonation provides a prickly and somewhat dry alcohol finish. Dubbels pair nicely with the rich, fruity flavors that enhance their caramelized characteristics. Fantastic with grilled red meats, game sausages and Abbey de Belloc and Chimay cheeses. Deep burgundy color with a big, fluffy head.
